This is a diverse and growing business offering the training, opportunities and support you need to begin and build a successful career.The RoleWe are currently looking to engage experienced Heavy Vehicle Mechanics to perform all trade related tasks associated with the maintenance and repair of heavy vehicles, plant and equipment. Operate machinery and assist in non-mechanical maintenance and minor fabrication tasks as required.The responsibilities of the position include;Diagnose and repair compression ignition engine systems, fit and operate special test equipment, and test-drive vehiclesDiagnose and repair vehicle electrical systems, charging systems and starting systemsDiagnose and repair heavy vehicle air braking systems, hydraulic braking systems and air over hydraulic braking systemsDiagnose and repair heavy commercial vehicle steering systems, suspension systems and drivelinesDiagnose and repair engine management and diesel fuel injection componentsDiagnose and repair vehicle hydraulic systemsDiagnose and repair engine cooling systemsConduct braking efficiency tests, and wheel balance and alignment checksRemove and install heavy vehicle components and assembliesCarry out servicing operationsCarry out minor body repairs and minor trim repairsInspect vehicles and issue roadworthiness certificates or list the work required before a certificate can be issued.Use oxy, ARC, TIG and MIG welding, hand-fitting or machining processes to replace or repair faulty parts.Management and accountability of repair parts and consumables issuedConduct checks to ensure that the maintenance tasks have been completed in accordance with the relevant Work StandardSkills and experiencePossess a recognised Trade Certificate III in Heavy Commercial Vehicle Mechanical Technology or equivalent.Possess an automotive air conditioning and/or refrigeration trade and applicable National/State licence to handle refrigerants.Demonstrated ability and practical experience to inspect, repair and maintain Light, Medium and/or Heavy vehicle to a medium level of repairPrevious background in vehicle maintenance with the Australian Defence Force (Desirable)Poses a current Australian State or Territory open driver's licence for Medium Rigid (MR) or Heavy Rigid (HR) classes of vehicles (Desirable)Baseline security clearance or ability to achieve.To APPLYYou must be an Australian citizen to gain the required security clearance.
