About the Role
We are looking for an experienced Citrix VDI Support Engineer to join a critical IT operations team supporting virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) in a secure government environment. In this role, you’ll be responsible for maintaining, monitoring, and enhancing the performance and reliability of Citrix VDI and Microsoft Remote Desktop Services (RDS) environments. You’ll ensure image integrity, operational readiness, and compliance with enterprise security standards.
This role suits professionals with strong hands-on experience in Citrix and Windows-based virtual environments, who are methodical, proactive, and committed to high standards in secure infrastructure support.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver daily operational support for Citrix VDI server farms, virtual desktops, and Microsoft RDS deployments.
- Monitor system health, resolve performance issues, and manage infrastructure-related incidents in accordance with SLAs.
- Maintain Standard Operating Environment (SOE) images, performing patching and minor upgrades within approved configuration baselines.
- Participate in scheduled disaster recovery exercises and ensure the VDI platform is DR-ready.
- Enforce security policy compliance, GPO application, and standardised configurations across virtual desktop environments.
- Maintain up-to-date documentation and support runbooks related to VDI, RDS, and SOE processes.
- Escalate application-level or user profile issues to relevant resolver teams for resolution.
Mandatory Requirements
- Active AGSVA Baseline Security Clearance (must be current)
- Australian Citizenship
- Availability to work onsite, 5 days per week
Required Skills & Experience
- 4+ years of experience supporting Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops in enterprise or government settings
- Proficient with Microsoft RDS infrastructure and session host management
- Experience maintaining and updating Windows-based SOE images
- Solid understanding of Citrix components such as Studio, Director, StoreFront, and related systems
- Strong knowledge of patching processes, image lifecycle, and user access control
- Comfortable working in highly secure, structured environments using formal ITSM processes (e.g. change, incident)
Qualifications
- Citrix Certified Associate – Virtualisation (CCA-V) or equivalent certification
- Microsoft certifications related to Azure Virtual Desktop, Windows Server, or End User Computing
- Previous experience supporting VDI in government or compliance-heavy environments
- Familiarity with ITIL-based service management practices
