Senior Network / Security Engineer is currently required for a permanent role to join a dynamic IT team in the government sector. In this pivotal role, you will support, maintain, enhance, and implement Network, Voice, and Security environments, ensuring the highest levels of availability, performance, and security.
You will act as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) in network, voice, and security technologies—taking the lead on complex escalations, delivering project-based enhancements, and driving industry-best practices across the infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities:
Support, maintain, and enhance Network, Voice, and Security environments.
Lead resolution of complex and escalated support issues within the Network Engineering team.
Architect, design, and implement highly available network and voice systems, ensuring reliability and scalability.
Design and maintain configuration management and automation solutions for network infrastructure.
Maintain accurate technical and user documentation, including as-built and support guides.
Operational management of the network and security infrastructure, ensuring uptime, performance, and compliance.
Proactively identify and address vulnerabilities, and support remediation activities.
Perform network capacity planning, optimisation, and security hardening.
Monitor and manage network and security environments using advanced toolsets (e.g., SolarWinds, Stealthwatch, LogRhythm).
Support and maintain enterprise video conferencing and collaboration solutions.
Technical Requirements & Experience:
Networking:
Expert understanding of:
WAN: MPLS, DMVPN, IPSec, SSLVPN, Ethernet, Cellular
LAN: VLANs, VTP, Spanning Tree
IP Routing: BGP, OSPF, EIGRP
High Availability from Edge to Core
Advanced knowledge of Cisco technologies: routers, switches, VoIP, and video infrastructure (CUCM, CUC, CUAC, Webex Control Hub)
Security:
Hands-on experience with:
Cisco Firewalls (FTD, ASA, FMC), Cisco ISE, Cisco Umbrella
Forescout, Stealthwatch, LogRhythm SIEM, Firemon, Nessus, Tenable
Experience implementing government-aligned network security standards
Voice & Video:
Implementation and support of Cisco VoIP and video conferencing devices
Experience with CUCM, Jabber Clients, Cisco Video Endpoints (RoomOS, MTR)
Cloud & Automation:
Azure networking implementation and design
Scripting/automation for configuration management and repeatable tasks
Monitoring & Documentation:
Proactive monitoring and analysis of network and security health
Proficiency with SolarWinds and other enterprise monitoring tools
Creation and maintenance of detailed network diagrams and documentation
Desirable Additional Skills:
Experience with VMware and Cisco UCS server environments
Carrier connectivity management and support
Multi-site hardware and systems software administration
Qualifications & Certifications:
Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) or equivalent – Required
ITIL v3 Foundation Certification – Required
Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) – Highly Desirable
