Your new roleDuties include:Provide a dedicated interface between the finance unit and other business units in matters related to general ledger, budgets and performance reporting.Liaise with managers and co-ordinators in their monthly and periodic review of financial performance and ensure that the variance comments between YTD actual and budget are accurately recorded and updated on a regular basis.Prepare monthly and period performance reporting package with variance comments for both operating and capital expenses, for review by Co-ordinator Accounting Services.Assist the Co-ordinator Accounting Services in the coordination of annual budget, quarterly forecasts, labour budgets, carry forward expenditure and long-term strategic resource planning Tasks.Drive strategic process improvements to enhance the effectiveness of financial controls and the efficiency of processes through updates to systems, reporting, guidelines and templates.Working collaboratively, lead delivery of timely and accurate financial reporting and cash flow forecasting requirements.Manage financial activities in accordance with statutory reporting, and State and Commonwealth tax compliance requirements.Attribute requirements:Strong judgment and decision making skills. Co-ordination and completion of tasks relating to solving problems in a practical and technical sense, whilst developing options within the constraints of authorised practices.Apply personal judgement on specialised issues and make decisions on current developments, which are in line with recognised accounting practices.Specialist accounting skills and knowledge A clear knowledge and understanding of the relevant accounting standards and Regulations, especially AAS27 and IFRS requirements as they affect the reporting of Local Government entity.Adept bank reconciliation skills.Sound knowledge of the operations of an integrated corporate finance system with hands-on experience in general Ledger, accounts receivables, receipting and other finance modules.Carry out financial analysis and report on variance to budget and also critically evaluate variance explanations provided by managers and coordinators, for relevance and consistency.Your new companyWorking for local council is a rewarding yet stable career path.
