The Opportunity:
We are seeking a dedicated and adaptable Payroll Officer to join a small finance team. This is a role that will see you take ownership of our payroll processes and contribute to a significant system transition. What You'll Do:
As our Payroll Officer, you will be responsible for the end-to-end processing of payroll across our organisation , acting as the first point of contact for all payroll queries. Your key responsibilities will include:
Processing payroll, including payment of PAYG, superannuation, and salary packaging.
Maintaining and reviewing employee entitlements such as sick leave, annual leave, accrued days off, and long service leave records.
Calculating payments for redundancy, termination, workers compensation claims, and audits.
Processing Travel Allowances for employees.
Supporting the Financial Accountant with required financial reports and processes.
Playing a key role in the transfer to a new payroll system (currently Xero, hoping to implement HRIS Rippling software).
Assisting with the adjustment of payroll processes and contributing your knowledge to the team.
What You'll Bring:
We are looking for someone who is flexible, can think on their feet, and is willing to learn and adapt to new systems and processes. Proven experience in end-to-end payroll service, particularly with interpretation of relevant industrial instruments such as the Clerks – Private Sector Award (Level 4/5), SCHADS Award, and ideally experience with mining awards.
Experience providing an end-to-end payroll service including the interpretation of information from relevant industrial instruments.
Competency in the use of Microsoft Office software, payroll and HRIS systems.
Proven organisational and time management skills, with demonstrated ability to work to tight timelines and prioritise competing work demands.
Strong verbal and written communication skills, to enable effective and professional communication with stakeholders at various levels.
A team-player mentality, with a friendly and collaborative approach.
Cultural sensitivity and awareness.
Willingness to learn and contribute to a supportive team environment.
Desirable (but not essential):
Experience with Xero and/or HRIS Rippling software.
An understanding of payroll complexities for senior staff with stipends and quarterly payments.
Willingness to travel to Port Augusta occasionally (once a month or less).
