Expression of Interest APS6 Strategic Policy Officer

We are seeking expressions of interest from experienced policy professionals to join our Strategic Policy team at the APS6 level. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to high-impact policy work that shapes national priorities and long-term government strategies.

Successful candidates will be considered for upcoming vacancies within the department and may be placed in a merit pool for future roles across a range of strategic policy areas.

Key Responsibilities

As an APS6 Strategic Policy Officer, you may be responsible for:

• Developing and coordinating strategic policy advice and initiatives

• Conducting research and analysis on complex policy issues

• Preparing high-quality written materials, including briefings and Cabinet submissions

• Engaging with stakeholders across government and the community

• Supporting strategic planning, coordination, and interagency collaboration

What We're Looking For

We are looking for candidates who can demonstrate:

• Experience in policy development and strategic analysis

• Strong written and verbal communication skills

• Ability to work independently and as part of a team

• Sound judgement and the ability to manage competing priorities

• An understanding of government policy processes and priorities

Eligibility Requirements

• Australian citizenship is required

• Ability to obtain and maintain a Baseline security clearance (or higher)

• Relevant qualifications or experience in public policy, economics, law, or related fields are desirable
