APS6 – Senior Procurement Officer
We are seeking an experienced procurement professional with the ability to thrive in a high-paced environment, build strong working relationships, and deliver high-quality outcomes. As part of the centralised Procurement team, you will support the department’s procurement and contracting functions and exercise sound judgement and initiative in the application of policy and procedures.
Key Responsibilities
... Provide strategic advice and practical guidance on procurement and contracting, including probity and compliance reviews, in accordance with the PGPA Act 2013 and Commonwealth Procurement Rules (CPRs)
Deliver timely, accurate and customer-focused support through the Procurement Helpdesk (via phone and email), including clear verbal and written advice
Collaborate with stakeholders to ensure compliance with procurement frameworks and deliver timely procurement outcomes
Develop, coordinate and deliver procurement training to internal stakeholders
Provide leadership and coaching to team members to support continuous improvement and quality service delivery
Maintain procurement systems, including AusTender and internal financial systems such as TechnologyOne
Coordinate mandatory reporting requirements, including Senate Order and Indigenous Procurement Policy (IPP) compliance
What We’re Looking For
Knowledge and Experience
Demonstrated experience in procurement, contract management and compliance activities
Proven ability to support operational teams while ensuring compliance with relevant policies and legislation
Strong stakeholder engagement and relationship management skills
Experience implementing best-practice approaches and driving operational improvements
Ability to provide evidence-based financial and procurement advice
Skills and Capabilities
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to work flexibly and manage multiple deadlines under pressure
Demonstrated initiative, problem-solving ability and lateral thinking
Ability to translate financial and procurement strategies into operational outcomes
Strong analytical skills and a commitment to continuous improvement
Desirable Qualifications and Experience
Minimum two years’ experience in a similar procurement or contract management role
Certificate IV, Diploma or Advanced Diploma in Government Procurement and Contracting
Familiarity with the Commonwealth Procurement Rules and related frameworks
Experience using TechnologyOne
Eligibility Requirements
Australian Citizenship – required for employment
Security Clearance – Baseline Vetting clearance (or ability to obtain and maintain)
Pre-employment Checks – including a National Police Check and referee checks
COVID-19 Vaccination Requirements
Where required under Australian law or departmental policy, you may need to be up to date with COVID-19 vaccinations and comply with any relevant public health directions.
Work Health and Safety Obligations

Supervisors and managers (APS5–EL1) are expected to model safe behaviours and uphold WHS standards.
Officers (EL2 and above) are required to ensure the department complies with its WHS obligations and must complete appropriate due diligence training.
