Randstad is proud to be partnering with a State Government agency seeking an experienced and strategic Senior Finance Manager to deliver expert financial leadership and partner closely with executives to support high-impact decision-making and organisational performance.
About the Role
Reporting to the Chief Finance Officer, this VPS6 opportunity is a key leadership role within the Finance and Business Operations team. The successful candidate will act as a trusted business partner to senior stakeholders across the organisation - providing financial guidance, challenging assumptions, and supporting strategic planning and investment decisions.
This role is ideally suited to someone who thrives in a collaborative environment, with the ability to influence outcomes and deliver financial insights that drive value and efficiency. You will oversee financial planning, budgeting, reporting, and team leadership while ensuring robust financial governance.
Key Responsibilities
- Proactively partner with senior leaders and executives to provide expert financial advice aligned with organisational strategy
- Translate complex financial data into actionable insights to support planning, prioritisation and performance management
- Lead financial planning cycles including annual budgets, forecasts, and long-term financial modelling
- Prepare and present timely financial reports and variance analysis to executive leadership, Audit & Risk Committee and the broader organisation
- Support delivery of strategic initiatives through scenario analysis, cost-benefit reviews, and investment evaluation
- Champion continuous improvement in financial systems, processes, and reporting
- Build strong cross-functional relationships with stakeholders including the Department of Transport and Planning
- Lead, mentor and develop a high-performing finance team, promoting a culture of accountability and service excellence
About You
- Extensive experience in a senior financial leadership role with a strong focus on business partnering and stakeholder engagement
- Demonstrated success influencing senior leaders through strategic financial advice and insights
- Strong understanding of budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, and governance frameworks
- Highly effective communicator with the ability to translate financial information for non-financial audiences
- Proven ability to manage competing priorities and work collaboratively across departments to achieve common goals
- Familiarity with public sector frameworks is essential
- Experience using financial management systems (e.g., Oracle) and advanced Excel skills
- Ability to lead teams with a focus on engagement, development, and results
Qualifications
- Tertiary qualifications in Accounting, Finance, Economics or a related field (essential)
- CPA or CA accreditation (mandatory)
- Experience within the Victorian Public Sector is highly regarded
