About The Role
This is a temporary, part-time (four days a week) opportunity for a Strategic Communications Adviser, commencing from early July until mid-October 2025. Reporting to the Senior Coordinator Media and Communications, you will play a crucial role in shaping and disseminating key messages across a variety of platforms. You will be responsible for developing and implementing strategic communication plans for both proactive campaigns and reactive issues management. A significant part of your role will involve producing compelling content for internal and external audiences, including writing speeches for the Mayor and CEO and coordinating a monthly community publication. This fast-paced role requires a professional who can adeptly manage competing priorities and handle sensitive information with the utmost discretion.

Key Responsibilities
Develop and execute strategic communications plans for a range of projects, campaigns, and engagement activities.
Write, edit, and proofread high-quality content for various channels, including publications, websites, social media, and internal communications.
Research and draft engaging speeches and scripts for the Mayor and CEO, utilising approved AI tools to enhance content.
Coordinate the end-to-end production of the monthly community newsletter, from content planning and writing to design and distribution.
Assist in managing media relations, including preparing media releases, responding to enquiries, and coordinating media opportunities.
Desirables
Previous experience in a communications role within local or state government.
Proven ability in community engagement and consultation, with an understanding of the IAP2 spectrum.
Skills in photography, basic video production, and editing, particularly with smartphones.
Proficiency in graphic design software such as InDesign, Illustrator, and/or Canva.
Experience with website content management systems (preferably Drupal-based) and email marketing platforms like Campaign Monitor.
Qualifications
A degree in journalism, media, communications, marketing, public relations, or a related discipline.
Demonstrated experience in a busy, complex communications environment, with strong writing skills across various styles and a focus on plain English.
Proven ability to provide strategic communications advice for both proactive promotions and reactive issues management.
Excellent stakeholder management skills, with a track record of successfully navigating competing priorities and sensitive matters.
A satisfactory and current Police Check and Working with Children’s Check are mandatory for this role.
