Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement strategic media and communications plans to promote the organisation and it's initiatives.
- Collaborate with subject matter experts to craft compelling media packages for TV, online, print, radio, and social media platforms.
- Create and deliver impactful media pitches, media releases, and talking points.
- Manage media inquiries and respond promptly and accurately, including participation in after-hours on-call media support.
- Support monitoring and identification of potential media risks, providing advice and mitigation strategies.
- Utilise reporting metrics to assess the effectiveness of media strategies and identify opportunities for improvement.
- Contribute to the development of media plans for announcements and events in collaboration with stakeholders.
- Assist in enhancing communication channels, including the website, social media, and stakeholder briefings.
- Engage with internal and external stakeholders to promote the work of the organisation
- Work strategically to identify opportunities to elevate the Scheme’s profile and positive public perception.
Essential Criteria:
- Proven experience in writing for a broad range of platforms and audiences.
- Strong attention to detail in editing and reviewing own work and that of others.
- Excellent time management skills, with the ability to prioritise tasks and meet deadlines.
- Confidence and experience in dealing with media outlets and journalists.
- Sharp news sense and critical thinking skills to assess information quickly and accurately.
- Ability to translate technical jargon into clear, simple language for diverse audiences.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively within small teams and independently with limited supervision.
- Effective triage skills to evaluate information efficiently.
- Experience in risk management and handling sensitive or complex issues.
Desirable Criteria:
- Established media contacts and networks.
- Understanding of Australian Public Service (APS) procedures and political office workings.
- Previous experience working within government or in a similar media role supporting policy and operational objectives.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Relevant tertiary qualification or equivalent experience in communications, media, or related fields.
- Demonstrated experience in strategic media engagement, content creation, and stakeholder liaison.
