About the Role
The Head of Villages will report to the Director of Venues and play a pivotal leadership role in managing the operational planning and delivery of all facilities and service operations for the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Villages, including all Regional Villages and all athlete and team official accommodation.
Accountable for shaping and delivering Villages design, concept, services, operational plans, and ultimate delivery aligned with Games vision, prioritising athlete experience and accessibility.
At Games-time the Head of Villages will lead a large, high-performing team, ensuring flawless operations and an exceptional experience for athletes and other Games stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
... - Plan and deliver the Villages Functional Area (FA), ensuring all Olympic and Paralympic Villages, Regional Villages and athlete and team official accommodation are delivered in an efficient and successful manner. Lead stakeholder engagement for Village planning by building strong relationships with Queensland Government agencies, IOC/IPC, and accommodation partners, including Regional Villages.
- Build and lead a high-performing Villages team and foster strong relationships with key Brisbane 2032 Functional Areas, stakeholders, and suppliers to deliver athlete-focused plans and operations.
- Develop a clear vision and strategy for Brisbane 2032 Village operations and services, including forecasting workforce, procurement, and financial needs. Facilitate integrated planning and align deliverables, scope, and milestones with key stakeholders using a RACI matrix.
- Negotiate and manage Village related contracts. This will include Venue Use Agreements, preparation of tender documentation and supporting the procurement process for the delivery of Village operations and services.
- Manage the Village Management budget for delivery of all operational activities and resources, identifying and implementing cost savings.
- Ensure the planning and delivery of Village Operations are in accordance with IOC/IPC National Olympic Committees (NOC)/ National Paralympic Committees (NPC), other key stakeholder requirements and to the required service levels; whilst identifying optimisation opportunities.
- Develop comprehensive accessibility plans for Paralympic athletes and officials ensuring full inclusivity across all facilities and service delivery.
- Manage all Games-time Village operations, including FA management, for a seamless, safe, and secure resident experience.
- Plan and execute efficient transitions prior to, during and after the Games; including handover, fit out, bump-in, testing, Olympic to Paralympic Village transitions, bump-out, decommissioning, restoration, and hand back to the village owners and/or developers.
Skills and Experience
- Minimum 15 years of relevant experience (preferably at least 5 years in a senior leadership position) in a similar major event village or hotel operations role, with an understanding of working with State and Federal government.
- Proven capability to build collaborative working relationships, both internally and with external delivery partners, with experience in navigating and influencing complex stakeholder groups.
- Proven contract negotiation skills.
- Identify opportunities, develop, and execute creative concepts within budget and timelines.
- Prepare clear, concise reports, presentations, and briefings on complex/sensitive issues for diverse audiences.
- Strong leadership experience in managing and building large, diverse, high performing teams in a high-pressure environment that includes salaried staff, contractors and volunteers.
- Able to develop clear project plans and timelines, familiar with project management processes and tools for major events.
