General Manager of Retail Operations NSW & WA - 130+ stores
Our client, a prominent leader in the pet wellness industry, is seeking an exceptional General Manager of Stores to spearhead their retail operations. This pivotal role is based in Sydney NSW and is responsible for driving the success of their retail brand.
About the Role:
The General Manager of Stores will play a crucial role in maximizing profitability, fostering a high-performance culture, and delivering exceptional customer experiences across the client's retail network. They will lead and inspire the Area Management team, which is considered the most important level of leadership within the business. This position is directly responsible for achieving state-level revenue, sales, and profit goals through strategic initiatives, operational excellence, and people development.
Key Responsibilities:
- People Leadership: Inspire, lead, and develop the Area Management team, ensuring high employee engagement and building a strong succession pipeline.
- Sales & Customer Experience Leadership: Drive retail operations to meet business goals, champion a customer-first culture, and oversee financial performance including budgeting and wage control.
- Operational Excellence: Implement strategies to meet KPIs, promote continuous improvement, and ensure consistency of retail standards.
- Compliance & Safety: Maintain company work health and safety standards and ensure adherence to all company policies and procedures.
What Success Looks Like:
Success in this role will be measured by the achievement of state financial targets , an engaged, productive, and customer-centric Area Management team , and the presence of active development and succession plans. Furthermore, team engagement metrics and customer satisfaction (VOC) metrics are expected to be at or above company targets.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in multi-site roles for a high-volume, disciplined retailer (preferred).
- Degree in Business Management (preferred).
- Exceptional leadership skills with the ability to drive and motivate performance through effective coaching.
- Superior commercial acumen and customer service orientation.
- Exceptional communicator, highly organized, and able to work autonomously and within a team.
- Hold a current driving license and ability to travel.
- A love of animals is a significant advantage.
