An opportunity has just become available within a long standing team at a local waste processing plant for a Forklift operator and Labourer. This is not just any waste plant! this is an exciting opportunity to be a part of a large scientific experiment in sustainable energy, with lots of opportunities for advancement, training and the chance to become part of a national leading brand.
This position begins on a consistent day shift, with the opportunity to transition to a permanent shift (early morning, afternoon, or night) once training is complete. There is a clear path to a temp-to-perm role for the right person.
This is a versatile, hands-on position where you'll have the chance to operate machinery and if you want to in the future move into roles running the front-end operators if you get the tickets.
Your responsibilities will include:
Managing truck movements in and out of the yard, including weighing and supervising tipping. Monitoring safety of team and civilians onsite
Labouring duties, Putting food waste into the blender, cleaning equipment, sweeping and hosing down the outdoor areas.
Computer Operation: Using a computer-based starter system to operate machinery, track changes, and perform preliminary troubleshooting. Use of a 2 way radio system to listen out for and communicate hazards, levels and changes. Use of a weighbridge measuring system, recording weights in and out.
Machinery Operation: As a Forklift operator you will play an essential part of the team ensuring the plant keeps moving and operational. If you want to obtain licences for front end loaders, telehandlers, and confined space they will give you the experience.
- Police check or williness to obtain.
Due to the nature of the work, a familiarity with strong smells, such as those found on a farm, waste service or in an abattoir, is a bonus for us, but not a requirement.
Shift & Remuneration
You'll start on a day shift before transitioning to one of the following permanent shifts based on your preference and training:
Early Mornings: Approximately 4:00 AM to 12:00 PM
Afternoons: Approximately 11:00 AM to 7:00 PM
Nights: Approximately 6:30 PM to 4:00 AM
This role includes occasional shifts on weekends and public holidays, where you will receive penalty rates.
Standard Pay Rate: $37.66 per hour
What We're Looking For
A desire to learn as you go and grow within the company. This role has many opportunities to learn new skills.
Computer Literacy: Basic computer skills to operate the starter system, weighbridge and 2 way radio.
Willingness to do hands-on, physically work, maintain site clenliness and safety.
Commitment to the team, showing up for all scheduled shifts.
Previous experience on a farm, waste, food, market or in an abattoir is a plus.
Tickets: Forklift license is essential for the role.
Bonus tickets: Current loader, telehandler, or confined space tickets are preferred but not mandatory.
- This role will require a Police Check, Drug and Alcohol test, Tetanus and Hep A and B vaccinations. (we can reimberse you for the vaccinations).
- Must be able to pass a physical fitness test for the role.
