EOI: APS5/6 Policy Officer - Strategic Policy & International Relations
Location: Canberra ACT Classification: APS 5/6 (Labour Hire) Engagement: 6-12 Month Contract (Potential for Extension) Clearance: Must hold an active NV2 Security Clearance (NV1 may be considered for exceptional candidates).
About the Role
This is a high-impact opportunity for a highly-cleared policy professional to contribute to Strategic Policy and International Relations at the Federal level. You will play a critical role in developing and shaping strategic policy that underpins national interests in a complex global environment.
We are seeking motivated and talented officers to provide detailed analysis, strategic advice, and high-quality written products that influence key government decisions on sensitive national matters.
Key Responsibilities
Working across the APS5/6 classification, your duties will include:
Policy Development: Conduct in-depth research and analysis to develop evidence-based strategic policy advice on complex national and international issues, including Economic Security and global trade.
Briefing & Reporting: Prepare high-quality, succinct written material, including complex briefs, Ministerial submissions, and reports for senior decision-makers.
Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate effectively with internal partners, other government agencies (State/Territory and Federal), industry representatives, and international counterparts.
Strategic Advice: Provide timely and accurate advice on intricate international relations, trade, and national security matters.
Project Delivery: Manage and deliver specific policy projects or work streams autonomously and to a high standard within established timeframes.
Skills & Experience Required
To be successful, you must be an Australian Citizen and possess an active NV2 Security Clearance (or NV1 with demonstrated exceptional experience).
Essential Skills:
Policy Expertise: Demonstrated experience in policy development, analysis, and implementation, ideally within a complex Federal, Defence, or national security context.
Strong Writing & Briefing: Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with a proven ability to produce clear, concise, and compelling policy briefs and advice for a senior audience.
Strategic Focus: Experience or deep understanding of International Relations, Strategic Policy, Global Trade, or Economics.
Government Experience: Experience working within the machinery of the Australian government (Federal, State, or Territory).
Highly Desirable Experience:
Previous experience in a Defence environment or on Defence-related policy issues.
A background in Economics or private international/national industry.
