Randstad is seeking an experienced and passionate Governance in Development Adviser to join a key government department. This pivotal role requires an expert with a strong background in governance policy and programming within international development. You will be instrumental in enhancing the quality and effectiveness of Australia’s development programs, contributing to high-impact outcomes across the Indo-Pacific.
This is an opportunity to provide intellectual leadership and specialist advice while strengthening the capability of a dedicated team. The role offers a flexible work arrangement of 6-10 days per fortnight for an initial one-year contract, with a potential for a one-year extension. While a Canberra-based location is strongly preferred, flexibility may be considered.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide high-quality technical assistance to improve the coherence and effectiveness of development investments and programs.
Offer strategic policy advice and embed best practices, drawing from global and in-country lessons.
Undertake analytical activities, including evaluating development programs and assessing value for money frameworks.
Support capability building within the department through training, mentoring, and developing guidance materials.
Review and quality assure concepts, design documents, and Development Partnership Plans.
Skills & Expertise:
A degree in Governance, Economics, International Development, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
In-depth understanding of the Indo-Pacific region's geopolitics and development context, with a focus on its intersection with Australia’s interests.
Proven ability to communicate with credibility, conveying complex information in an accessible manner.
Strong experience building and maintaining effective working relationships with diverse stakeholders.
Familiarity with the department's development programming cycle, including performance and risk frameworks.
Important Requirements:
Applicants must be Australian citizens and must hold or be willing to obtain a valid NV1 security clearance.
