Role Summary:
The Assistant Director, Stakeholder Engagement and Government Relations will be an integral part of the Stakeholder Engagement and Government Relations team. This role is a leadership position focused on providing high-level coordination and strategic advisory services. You will directly support the external relationships and engagements of the Departments' Chair, Board, and CEO with key stakeholders, including Energy Ministers and senior energy industry figures.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategic Advisory & Government Relations: Provide expert advice to senior executives and manage government relations initiatives, with a particular focus on a Federal and/or State Government setting.
Stakeholder Management: Take a proactive and strategic approach to building and maintaining effective relationships with a wide range of external stakeholders, including government bodies, industry leaders, and consumer advocates.
Executive Support: Directly support the Department's Chair, Board, and CEO in their external engagements, ensuring they are well-prepared with timely and accurate information.
Communication: Draft and coordinate a variety of written communications, including time-sensitive briefings and strategic advice documents, ensuring clarity and accuracy.
Cross-Functional Collaboration: Engage and collaborate effectively with both internal teams across the agency and external partners to achieve shared goals.
Task Management: Operate effectively in a fast-paced environment, managing multiple tasks and competing priorities while maintaining a high level of performance.
Problem-Solving: Utilise flexible problem-solving skills to gather, analyse, and synthesise information, making timely and effective decisions to address challenges.
Engagement Strategy: Contribute to the development and implementation of comprehensive stakeholder engagement and communication plans.
Required Experience and Skills:
Proven experience in providing strategic advice to senior stakeholders and managing government relations.
Demonstrated experience in a Federal or State Government setting is highly desirable.
Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to create clear, concise, and time-sensitive materials.
A track record of managing senior executive relationships with key stakeholders (e.g., Ministers, Government, Market Bodies, Industry).
Ability to work effectively with diverse internal and external stakeholders.
Excellent organisational skills and the ability to manage a high-volume workload with competing deadlines.
Analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a capacity to make timely and effective decisions.
Experience in stakeholder engagement, including advising on engagement activities and contributing to communications plans.
