Are you an assurance and risk professional ready to make an impact on a national scale by reviewing, coordinating, and safeguarding the assurance frameworks, registers, and delivery activities of a major reform program?
I am currently partnering with a prominent Federal Government client in the disability sector to recruit an EL1 Assistant Director, Risk and Assurance Manager. This is a critical, high-impact role within the New Framework Planning (NFP) Program, operating under broad direction with a high level of autonomy and supervisory responsibility.
About the Opportunity
In this role, you will be responsible for coordinating and managing the day-to-day delivery of assurance activities across the NFP Program, while seamlessly blending your operational responsibilities with your strategic expertise.. You will support internal, external, and independent assurance engagements by managing inputs, evidence, and logistics while maintaining a consolidated view of findings, risks, and actions across the program. Key Responsibilities:
- Assurance Delivery & Risk Expertise: Manage the day-to-day delivery of NFP Program assurance activities, applying professional expertise in risk management to evaluate complex scenarios and provide authoritative, evidence-based advice.
- External Support & Sound Judgement: Act as the central point of contact for external/independent auditors, using sound judgement and common sense to coordinate evidence, track remediation actions, and assess longer-term impacts and interdependencies.
- Analysis & Strategic Reporting: Gather, assess, and synthesise complex information from diverse sources to lead the preparation of accurate, balanced assurance reporting, executive briefings, and committee papers.
- Framework Maintenance & Problem Solving: Operate and maintain the NFP Program Assurance framework, registers, and tools to ensure continuous audit readiness, applying strong conceptual thinking to resolve issues and improve processes.
- Stakeholder Engagement & Culture Building: Build productive relationships across program and corporate functions, utilising highly developed communication skills to tailor messaging for executives while modeling a constructive and accountable risk culture.
Ideally you will possess:
- PMO Exposure: Proven experience operating within a PMO or portfolio management function, preferably within a regulated environment.
- Agility: Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and adapt swiftly to changing priorities.
- Exceptional Communication Skills: A proven ability to write for a government audience and influence diverse stakeholder groups to achieve positive policy outcomes.
- Analytical Mindset: Strong conceptual and problem-solving skills, with experience analyzing data and information to inform strategic advice.
- Sector Knowledge: Knowledge of the disability sector, legislation, strategic commissioning, or Commonwealth procurement rules is highly regarded.
