Are you a banking professional, credit specialist, or legal mind who believes in fairness over red tape?
We are seeking a Dispute Resolution Specialist to join a leading, mission-driven national ombudsman. This is a rare opportunity to move away from the "profit-first" corporate grind and into a role where your decisions drive systemic change and social impact.
Working within the Banking and Finance stream, you will act as an independent adjudicator, resolving complex disputes between consumers/small businesses and their financial providers.
The Role
You won't just be "processing" files—you will be investigating, negotiating, and deciding. You will:
Direct the Investigation: Review unresolved banking complaints, identifying exactly what information is needed to reach a fair conclusion.
Negotiate Outcomes: Use your influence and ADR (Alternative Dispute Resolution) skills to help parties settle disputes without the need for a formal ruling.
Draft Decisions: For cases that won't budge, you will write "Plain English" assessments and formal decisions that are legally sound and easy to understand.
Drive Fair Outcomes: Apply the Banking Code of Practice and the National Credit Code to ensure the "little guy" gets a fair go while holding financial institutions to industry standards.
Focus Areas
Lending & Credit: Mortgages, personal loans, and credit card disputes.
Financial Hardship: Evaluating if banks have supported customers in times of vulnerability.
Scams & Fraud: Investigating unauthorised transactions and digital banking security.
Small Business: Navigating commercial loan disputes and guarantor issues.
About You
To thrive in this environment, you don’t need to be a "paper pusher"—you need to be a problem solver. We are looking for:
Sector Expertise: A background in Retail Banking, Credit Law, Financial Hardship, or Debt Recovery.
The "Plain English" Factor: You can take a complex financial mess and explain the solution in simple, human terms.
Investigation Skills: You know how to "follow the money" and the evidence to find the truth of a matter.
Resilience: You are comfortable having tough conversations with both distressed consumers and bank legal teams.
Autonomy: You enjoy managing your own caseload while contributing to a high-performing, collaborative team.
Why Apply?
True Flexibility: Industry-leading hybrid work arrangements.
Purpose-Led Work: Every day you are solving real-world problems for everyday Australians.
Career Growth: Deepen your expertise in financial law and dispute resolution in a supportive, high-intellect environment.
