We're seeking a talentedCommunications professional to join our team on a 3-month contract, with potential for extension up to 6 months. This is an urgent requirement, with an immediate start date to ensure a smooth handover as the current incumbent departs on May 16th.
About the Role:
This is a dynamic and fast-paced role within a busy government environment. You will be responsible for providing essential communications support across a range of critical council functions, with a strong focus on infrastructure, roads, and construction projects. You'll be working closely with various teams, including Traffic & Transport, Waste Management, Trades and Fleet Services, Roads, Footpaths & Drainage, and Assets & Capital Projects.
You will play a key role in translating technical information into clear, concise, and engaging content for a variety of audiences. The ability to juggle multiple deadlines, turn around urgent communications quickly, and thrive in a changing environment is essential.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement communication plans and produce content for various digital and print assets
- Write compelling copy for website, EDM, social media platforms, brochures, posters, media releases, advertising, printed newsletters, banners, and digital screens
- Assist with issues management, including identifying potential media issues and recommending strategies to manage them
- Prepare media statements and releases and respond to media enquiries
- Update and manage social media sites, driving engagement and growing our online audience
- Assist with updating website, ensuring content is accurate and aligns with style guides
- Prepare speeches for the General Manager as required
- Assist with the planning and delivery of corporate events
- Effectively manage stakeholders across various council departments, providing expert communications advice
- Translate complex technical information into plain English for diverse audiences
- Proactively identify opportunities for improvement in communication processes and systems
- Contribute positively to a team undergoing significant change
Key Requirements:
- Tertiary qualifications in communications or a related discipline and demonstrated experience in a public relations/digital communications role, with a strong preference for experience gained in local government or infrastructure/roads/construction projects
- Demonstrated experience in dealing with the media, preferably gained in a political environment
- Demonstrated experience in developing, writing, and editing high quality corporate documents, media releases, newsletters, brochures, and speeches
- Demonstrated experience with digital media in a Corporate Environment, including website and social media platforms
- Outstanding oral communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to liaise and network with a range of internal clients
- Skills in handling high volume output, managing time, setting priorities, planning and organising workflow
- Strong writing skills across print, digital, and media release/responses
- Experience developing communication plans and producing content for assets across digital and print
- Strong stakeholder management skills – ability to work with diverse teams, provide strategic communications advice, and deliver supporting communications
- Ability to juggle multiple deadlines and turn things around quickly, particularly for urgent communications
- Team player – positive, can-do attitude, with willingness to take on different/extra tasks as needed (within working hours)
- Flexible – ability to adapt to existing processes and systems while contributing to improvements.
- Resilient and positive – ability to navigate and thrive in a team undergoing change
- Experience using Monday.com would be a bonus
