Communications Advisor - Local Government

Randstad is proud to partner with a prominent local government organisation in Melbourne to find a passionate and experienced Communications Advisor to join their Strategic Communications and Engagement team.
In this pivotal role, you'll be responsible for developing and implementing communication plans to promote council services and programs to the local community. You will work closely with departments across the organisation, offering expert advice to senior management, the CEO, Councillors, and the Mayor. This is an opportunity to use your skills to help shape and protect the council's brand and reputation.
Key Responsibilities:
Develop and implement strategic communication plans for council programs and services.
Offer expert communications and engagement advice to key internal stakeholders, including senior management, the CEO, and Councillors.
Draft speeches for the Mayor and senior leadership.
Coordinate promotional material for council services and events.
Plan and lead community engagement strategies for major projects, attending forums and sessions as required, both during and outside of normal business hours.
Act as a trusted point of contact, building and maintaining cooperative relationships with senior management, Councillors, and the community.
Prepare timely responses to high-profile information requests from petitions or community feedback.
Skills and Experience:
We are looking for someone with:
Demonstrated skills in public relations and the development of comprehensive communication strategies.
Excellent research, writing, and proofreading skills for a range of materials, including speeches, publications, and online content.
Strong knowledge of online technologies and social media.
The ability to manage your own workload, handle conflicting priorities, and meet tight deadlines.
A proven ability to build positive relationships across an organisation and within the community.
Tertiary qualifications in Communications, Public Relations, or Journalism.
Experience in a communications, public relations, or community engagement role.
