Randstad is seeking a Business Strategist to join a government department for a 24 month permanent contract. Purpose:
The purpose of Business Strategist is to establish and facilitate strategy sensing and formulation as part of strategy development that enables the Government owned corporation to set strategic direction and choices; and position the organisation to successfully deliver on its purpose and overall strategy. This includes sourcing and analysing information from external and internal environmental scans, and developing strategic objectives and choices.
The Business Strategist collaborates and works in partnership across the enterprise and with Leaders to execute the Strategy, including the development of performance measures, scorecards, strategic objectives and initiatives, business plans, and engagement plans and other activity to support strategy delivery.
... Duties and responsibilities:
Support the Strategy Team and Senior Leadership team in the generation, evaluation and selection of strategic choices and options, to support the Government owned corporation’s strategic direction setting purpose and objectives.
- Establish and maintain frameworks and approach including business systems to facilitate the 3- 5 year strategy development and implementation/execution for the Government owned corporation.
- Engage the Government owned corporations Senior Leadership Team and the broader organisation to seek input; build and gain support to implement strategic frameworks and approach within the business.
- Lead and facilitate the development of corporate strategic performance measurement, scorecard, external environmental scan and enabling analysis and tracking of performance against strategic objectives
- Undertake and co-ordinate research (quantitative and qualitative) and analysis on external trends and their implications to the business.
- Design and maintain approach to strategic objective development and engage with the Senior Leadership Team and the broader organisation to ensure objectives inform decision making and create clarity and alignment across business.
- Support the business in the development of the annual corporate business planning round for the Government owned corporation to ensure consistency and alignment with the overall strategic direction and enterprise initiatives.
- Actively partner and coordinate with subject matters experts internally and externally to understand, anticipate and interpret change in the external environment, provide insight and translate them into actionable recommendations to executive decision making.
Qualifications:
Relevant degree level qualification relating to the development and implementation of business strategy, business management, commerce, or a lower level qualification coupled with significant experience in a Strategy role.
Position Requirements:
Essential:
- Demonstrated knowledge and application of contemporary strategy development and implementation frameworks, techniques and proof of concept methodology including the integration of new techniques within an organisational framework.
- Demonstrated ability to design, produce and implement strategic performance measurement (e.g. strategic objectives and its cascade, business scorecard and reports) to create clear strategic direction.
- Demonstrated ability to apply problem solving techniques and analytical skills to overcome varied situations, identifying areas of concern and implementing practical and appropriate solutions.
- Experience in performing and coordinating external environmental scan, analyse and interpret information and provide insight to senior management and inform decision making.
- Experience in translating and supporting business strategy into tactical plans and outcomes, ensuring measurable, cost-effective delivery of key outcomes and clear alignment to strategic goals.
- Demonstrated ability to deliver and guide corporate business plans across enterprise business functions in a complex organisation, and proactively identifying and addressing risks to ensure business outcomes.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, in particular the ability to write concise reports and presentations with practical recommendations for senior management, including coordinating information from multiple stakeholders to ensure quality and timely development of strategic documentation.
- Demonstrated experience in stakeholder engagement, relationship building, facilitation, influencing and partnering skills, at all levels across an organisation.
Desirable:
- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the electricity transmission network or relevant energy sector.
- Demonstrated experience in strategy implementation and execution in the energy sector.
- Demonstrated ability to understand the broader context in which the Government owned corporation operates, applying knowledge of the industry, regulations, environment, and other relevant factors for strategy development.
