The Senior Communications Advisor will work within a fast-paced, collaborative environment to lead the planning and delivery of communication strategies for complex, high-profile infrastructure projects. The position is suited to someone who can confidently manage sensitive issues, simplify technical information, and provide trusted communications advice to senior leaders.
The role involves close collaboration with internal project teams, external contractors, community groups and other government agencies, supporting both proactive communications and responsive engagement needs.
Key responsibilities
Develop and deliver communications strategies aligned with project timelines and goals
Create clear, accessible content for a range of platforms, including media releases, stakeholder updates, website content and social media
Provide strategic advice on engagement and issues management to project teams and executives
Plan and coordinate community consultation and stakeholder engagement activities
Monitor media and public sentiment, and support the preparation of briefings and responses
Translate complex project and technical information into plain English messaging
Help ensure all communication materials meet accessibility and branding guidelines
About the candidate
The ideal candidate will bring:
Extensive experience in communications, stakeholder engagement or media
Exceptional writing and editing skills with attention to clarity and tone
Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work across diverse stakeholder groups
Experience working on large infrastructure or public projects (preferred)
Confidence handling high-pressure or sensitive communications issues
A proactive mindset and the ability to manage competing deadlines
Understanding of government processes and community engagement standards
Desirable qualifications
Tertiary qualifications in communications, journalism, public relations or related discipline
Familiarity with engagement tools and channels such as Engagement HQ or Inx InFor
