the client
A local council in WA consistently recruits for various customer service roles (full-time, part-time, casual) in their call centre. They required a provider to conduct pre-testing for a high volume of candidates to assess suitability before interviews. To further streamline their recruitment, the client also requested an assessment centre to simplify the interview and offer stages.
-
the objective
From an initial pool of over 200 applicants for only six positions, the Council shortlisted 74 candidates. Their primary goal was to drastically streamline the interview process, condensing what would typically be weeks of individual interviews into one comprehensive assessment centre.
-
what we did
Collaborating closely with the Council, Randstad developed a tailored 30-minute online assessment. This assessment combined three distinct tests to efficiently evaluate candidates, each specifically mapped to the council's key call centre competencies. These assessments were Council-branded and distributed via email, allowing candidates one week to complete them remotely. Throughout this phase, Randstad actively monitored engagement, provided candidate support and managed all test administration.
Following the initial testing, Randstad consulted with the Council to establish appropriate test benchmarks, which then served as the baseline for evaluating all long-listed candidates. Our delivery team provided a detailed report, successfully narrowing the candidate pool from 74 to 25.
To further streamline the selection process, Randstad also designed and facilitated a half-day assessment centre for these 25 shortlisted candidates. This comprehensive session included behaviour-based interviews, a collaborative group activity and a practical role-play scenario.
-
the outcome
Randstad delivered a rapid and comprehensive assessment project for 74 candidates. In just two weeks, we conducted detailed testing on speed, accuracy, problem-solving and job fit, and also designed and ran an assessment centre. Our final output included clear rankings and helpful feedback to guide the client's hiring choices. Overall results included:
- 74 candidates tested with no reported issues regarding candidate experience.
- A quick and objective short-listing process, leveraging detailed individual results and comparative candidate benchmarking.
- The project was delivered on schedule within two weeks, providing the council with access to top-tier talent.
- All required positions were filled by the council's deadline, with additional candidates proving suitable for other internal roles.
