Reporting to the State Service Manager, you will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of our workshop operations. This includes managing a team of 13 experienced tradespeople, ensuring high-quality output of electrical motor overhauls, fostering strong client relationships, and championing a culture of safety excellence.
Key Responsibilities:
- Client Liaison: Serve as the primary point of contact for key clients, including Alston and QR/Metro, ensuring their needs are met and expectations are exceeded.
- Scheduling and Planning: Efficiently plan and schedule workflow for batches of 6-8 motors, managing turnaround times of approximately 4-6 weeks in a production line-style environment.
- Quality Control (QC): Actively participate in the testing and final quality control processes to ensure all work meets the highest standards.
- Quoting: Prepare accurate and timely quotes for specialized locomotive works, utilizing available historical data.
- Safety Leadership: Drive and embed cultural change initiatives focused on psychosocial safety within a traditional workshop environment, ensuring a safe and supportive workplace for all team members.
- Team Leadership & Empowerment: Provide guidance, support, and mentorship to a highly experienced and autonomous team of fitters, electrical fitters, and fitter and turners. Foster an environment of trust and empowerment, working closely with two leading hands responsible for day-to-day operations.
- EBA Negotiations: Participate in Enterprise Bargaining Agreement discussions as required (typically every three years).
Qualifications & Experience:
- Mandatory: QLD certified electrical license
- Essential: Must be eligible to be signed off as a Qualified Technical Person (QTP) to meet QLD electrical standards
- Demonstrated experience working with electrical motors.
- Proven leadership experience in a workshop or similar industrial environment.
Essential Skills & Attributes:
- Commitment to maintaining high standards for quality control.
- Ability to trust, empower, and guide a highly experienced and tenured team.
- Strong client liaison and relationship management skills.
- Proficiency in scheduling, planning, and workshop workflow management.
- Experience with SAP ERP system is highly beneficial.
- A strong commitment to safety excellence and experience leading cultural change, particularly regarding psychosocial safety.
- Adept at conflict management and resolution.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
What is being offered:
- Salary: $130,000-135,000 + 10% bonus + superannuation
