Trades Assistant – Boilermaker Support
...
We’re currently seeking a skilled and experienced Trades Assistant to support Boilermakers in a busy precast concrete manufacturing yard based in Swanbank, Ipswich. This is not your average TA role — we’re looking for someone with hands-on experience in tac welding reinforced steel and assisting with the preparation of large-scale concrete products, particularly sewer and stormwater pipes.
You’ll be working for a Tier 1 manufacturer that supplies critical concrete infrastructure products across Queensland. This is an opportunity to join a safety-first, high-performing team with ongoing work and the potential to transition to a permanent role.
Assist Boilermakers in the fabrication and assembly of reinforced steel cages for concrete products
Perform tac welding of reo bars and mesh within moulds used for large-diameter sewer and stormwater pipes
Operate hand and power tools, grinders, and basic welding equipment
Ensure all reinforcement is correctly placed and secured in accordance with drawings and specifications
Maintain a clean and organised work area, complying with yard safety standards
Follow production schedules and assist in the movement of materials around the yard
Communicate effectively with Boilermakers, Production Supervisors, and other team members
Contribute to the overall efficiency of the precast operation by being proactive and hands-on
Proven experience as a Trades Assistant in a precast, steel, or heavy fabrication environment
Strong tac welding ability with steel reinforcement (experience in concrete pipe work highly regarded)
Ability to read and interpret basic drawings or work from verbal instructions
Good mechanical aptitude and confidence working with steel, welds, and hand tools
Construction White Card (mandatory)
Physically fit, punctual, and capable of working in a busy yard environment
Safety-focused with a positive and team-oriented attitude
Own transport to get to site (Swanbank location – not easily accessible by public transport)
Competitive pay rate: $42–$47/hr + overtime
Consistent 50+ hour work weeks, including regular Saturday shifts
Early starts (typically from 6:00AM)
Temp-to-perm opportunity with a highly reputable national precast company
Supportive team culture with strong safety systems in place
Long-term project pipeline offering job stability
At Randstad, we are passionate about providing equal employment opportunities and embracing diversity to the benefit of all. We actively encourage applications from any background.
