About the Role
Our client are a well-known VIC State government organisation based in the Melbourne CBD. They are urgently seeking a Senior Payroll Advisor to come in and join them on a 2-3 month temp contract with potential for extension or conversion to permanency.
Candidates for this role must have
- Proven high volume end to end payroll processing experience
- Experience in a Senior level Payroll position
- Knowledge and experience with CHRIS21 system (Essential)
- Competency with relevant software packages including Word, Advanced Excel, and Outlook
Key responsibilities will include:
Full-Cycle Payroll Management: Process end-to-end payroll (fortnightly to yearly) using Chris21, managing everything from new starters and salary changes to complex terminations and EOY reconciliations.
Compliance & Statutory Obligations: Ensure strict adherence to EBAs and legislation while managing the timely processing of PAYG, STP, Payroll Tax, and Superannuation requirements.
Team Leadership & Quality Control: Mentor Payroll Advisors on technical tasks and audit team entries to ensure data integrity and accuracy across the payroll function.
System Optimisation & Testing: Act as a SME for payroll systems, managing vendor relationships, resolving technical issues, and performing UAT for all system upgrades and P&T projects.
Financial Reporting & Reconciliation: Reconcile payroll General Ledger accounts for BSR submissions and produce high-level HR statistical reports for internal stakeholders and external auditors.
Continuous Improvement: Streamline payroll workflows by developing SOPs and implementing process enhancements that align with best practices and government policy.
Stakeholder & Service Management: Collaborate with HR and Talent Acquisition teams to provide expert payroll advice and resolve complex employee and stakeholder inquiries.
About You
You will be an experienced Senior Payroll professional with proven experience and reliability in previous positions.
The successful candidate will possess:

- Competency with relevant software packages including Word, Advanced Excel, and Outlook
