The position leads the H&S Business Partner team, fostering strong relationships across academic, research and
operational areas as well as driving continuous improvement and risk reduction initiatives.
Key selection criteria
Essential
• Qualifications in occupational health and safety, risk management, science, engineering or a related field.
• Extensive experience providing senior-level advice and leadership in health and safety within a complex
organisation.
• Demonstrated experience managing or overseeing H&S management systems and digital safety platforms.
• Strong understanding of OHS legislation, standards, codes of practice and governance processes.
• Proven ability to lead teams, influence stakeholders and build strong advisory relationships.
• Experience in incident investigation, risk assessment and development of plain-English technical H&S
procedures.
• Demonstrated capability in project management and delivery of continuous improvement initiatives.
• High-level communication, interpersonal and negotiation skills.
• Ability to analyse data, prepare high-quality reports and deliver strategic insights.
• Ability to work independently, flexibly, co-operatively and efficiently as a member of a client-focused team.
• The role will periodically require availability and after-hours response to support incident management, critical
events or emergency-related activities.
• Strong knowledge of mental health (including psychosocial), wellbeing, workers’ compensation and
ergonomics.
Desirable
• Experience working in higher education, research, clinical or similarly complex multi-risk environments.
• Knowledge of ISO 45001 and experience embedding formal management systems.
• Experience with organisational culture development or change management.
• Training or qualifications in audit, investigations, coaching or leadership.
