We are looking for a Senior IMS DBA to join our clients Core Systems team. In this pivotal role, you will act as a high-level technical consultant, ensuring the availability, performance, and integrity of our IMS database environments.
You won't just be "keeping the lights on." You will be driving strategy, mentoring junior talent, and partnering with application teams to modernise and optimise our most critical banking platforms.
Your ImpactTechnical Leadership & Strategy
- Expert Consultation: Act as the primary technical authority on IMS database usage, performance tuning, and system architecture.
- Strategic Planning: Contribute to both tactical and long-term mainframe roadmaps, ensuring our platform remains cost-effective and aligned with industry trends.
- Mentorship: Lead and develop junior team members, fostering a culture of technical excellence and continuous learning.
Operational Excellence
- Performance & Tuning: Optimise FullFunction and FastPath databases to ensure maximum throughput and stability.
- Project Delivery: Manage the implementation of new database functionality in collaboration with development teams and stakeholders.
- Incident Resolution: Provide expert-level diagnosis for complex technical issues, participating in a 24x7 on-call roster to support critical applications.
Stakeholder Engagement
- Business Partnership: Translate complex business requirements into high-quality, cost-effective technical solutions.
- Collaboration: Work across organisational boundaries (Storage, Network, and PSSC) to deliver seamless end-to-end services.
Technical Essentials
- Deep IMS Expertise: Comprehensive experience in IMS Database Administration, including capacity planning, recovery, security, and data integrity.
- Platform Mastery: In-depth knowledge of FullFunction, FastPath, and the z/OS operating system.
- Tooling: Proficiency with IBM and BMC IMS database utilities.
- Analytical Rigor: A proven track record of solving high-pressure technical problems and implementing change that adds business value.
- HOGAN Environments: Experience administering IMS databases specifically within HOGAN banking frameworks.
- Broad Infrastructure Knowledge: Understanding of data storage technologies, communication protocols, and network connectivity.
- Project Management: Exposure to formal PM methodologies and resource estimation.
- Strategic Orientation: You see the big picture and plan for the future.
