About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Senior Contracts Manager to provide leadership, strategic commercial focus, and robust contract management for a major infrastructure projects division.
Embedded within a dynamic Commercial and Project Controls team, you will collaborate with Legal, Risk, Finance, and Project Delivery teams to ensure the end-to-end management of design, construction, and goods/services contracts. Your focus will be on mitigating risk, optimizing spend, ensuring policy compliance, and driving continuous process improvements.
Key Accountabilities
Contract Management & Process Optimization: Develop and manage agile contract management processes, schedules, and tools to systemize and automate pre- and post-award activities.
Strategic Procurement Advice: Provide high-level advice to delivery teams on optimal procurement routes, including State Purchase Contracts (SPC), panels, or bespoke approaches.
End-to-End Sourcing & Execution: Lead procurement planning, develop sourcing strategies, and oversee the preparation and review of RFQ/RFT documentation.
Risk & Commercial Governance: Identify and reduce commercial risks through tailored risk management strategies during negotiation and delivery phases, ensuring strict compliance with government procurement policies (including VGPB guidelines).
Supplier & Stakeholder Relations: Act as the primary point of contact for complex suppliers, managing contract inquiries, variations, performance KPIs, and disputes while building sustainable supplier relationships.
Reporting & Financial Oversight: Deliver accurate reporting on contract status, contribute to budget forecasting, and minimize financial risk exposure.
Selection Criteria
To be successful in this role, you will possess:
Qualifications: A tertiary degree in Law, Business, Commerce, Supply Chain, Procurement, or a related discipline.
Experience: 5–10 years of dedicated procurement or contract management experience, with a strong preference for candidates from Government, Rail, or Heavy Civil Construction environments.
Commercial Acumen: Proven experience leading complex commercial negotiations to deliver high-value, "value for money" outcomes.
Strategic Capability: Demonstrated ability to provide strategic procurement advice to senior executives and multi-disciplinary stakeholders.
Policy Knowledge: Familiarity with public sector procurement frameworks, policy compliance, and complex contract documentation (including Contract Management Plans).
Personal Attributes
Influential Communicator: Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex contractual issues clearly to a diverse range of stakeholders.
Relationship Builder: A proven track record of developing collaborative, trusted relationships with internal delivery teams and external suppliers alike.
