Project Manager (Water Utility Infrastructure - Modifications)

About the Role
We are seeking an experienced and multi-skilled Project Manager to join our team, focusing on niche, small to medium-scale infrastructure modifications and upgrades within the water utility sector, specifically related to sewage water treatment plants and associated pumping systems. This is a white-collar role that requires a robust combination of technical process understanding and strong project management execution.
Key Responsibilities
...- Project Delivery: End-to-end management of small-scale infrastructure modification and upgrade projects, typically valued up to $5 million. Projects focus on existing plant upgrades (e.g., tank modifications, instrumentation, panel changes).
- Technical Integration: Act as a central, multi-disciplined project point of contact, fulfilling the functions of Project Manager, Scheduler and Cost Controller.
- Process Expertise: Possess a strong ability to interpret and work with process documentation, including P&IDs (Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams), to ensure all project scopes are accurately defined and executed.
- Engineering Oversight: Display a solid understanding of electrical systems and instrumentation (SCADA, programming, and upgrades) related to process control, while knowing when to effectively lean on mechanical and structural specialists for support.
- Stakeholder Management: Coordinate all project activities to ensure seamless integration with the existing plant and infrastructure services packages.
- Project Implementation: Lead the implementation process and ensure all modifications are completed safely, efficiently, and to the required quality standards.
Skills and Experience
- Experience: A minimum of six (6) years of professional experience in project management or project engineering.
- Expertise: Demonstrated, hands-on experience in water utility and sewage water treatment plants. Experience with pumping systems is highly regarded.
- Project Scale: Proven track record managing modifications, brownfield upgrades, and capital works up to approximately $5 million.
- Core Competencies: Strong skills in project planning, scheduling, cost control, risk management, and overall project execution.
- Process Knowledge: Ability to read and understand process schematics and integrate process engineering requirements into the project lifecycle.
- Communication: Excellent communication and collaboration skills to manage site teams, internal stakeholders, and external contractors.
- Location/Timing: Flexibility regarding location (potential talent pool is in Brisbane), with an ideal start within a few weeks for the right candidate.
The Ideal Candidate
You are a Project Manager or Project Engineer who thrives on finding and delivering solutions in a niche and technically complex environment. You are comfortable managing smaller, critical modifications where a deep understanding of water treatment processes and controls (particularly electrical and instrumentation) is key to success. You are a self-starter who can effectively blend technical expertise with strong project management fundamentals.
