About the Role
Our client is a Federal Government agency based in the Sydney CBD. They are currently seeking a Payroll & Finance Officer to come in and work with them on a permanent basis.
Candidates for this role must have:
- Knowledge of payroll legislation, compliance requirements, and full-function payroll operations
- Proficiency in Aurion and TechOne finance systems (highly desirable).
- Experience working within a government agency preferred
- Broader accounting and financial control skills and experience
- Australian Citizenship (Federal Government requirement)
Key responsibilities would include:
- End-to-End Payroll: Process fortnightly payroll for 130–170 staff, managing onboarding, terminations, leave, and adjustments.
- Vendor & Stakeholder Liaison: Coordinate with Aurion MPaaS and People & Culture to ensure data accuracy and workflow alignment.
- Compliance & Award Interpretation: Apply relevant legislation, Awards, enterprise agreements, and internal policies accurately.
- Query & Escalation Management: Act as the first point of contact for resolving complex payroll inquiries from staff and management.
- Financial Operations: Handle payroll reconciliations, journal entries, accounts payable, bank administration, and audit reporting.
- Cross-Functional Support: Partner with FCR and BPP teams on budget submissions, financial statements, and agency objectives.
- Process Improvement: Maintain payroll documentation and support system upgrades and continuous improvement initiatives.
About You
You will be an experienced Payroll and finance operations professional with proven experience and reliability in previous positions.
The successful candidate will possess:
- Knowledge of payroll legislation, compliance requirements, and full-function payroll operations
- Proficiency in Aurion and TechOne finance systems (highly desirable).
- Experience working within a government agency preferred
- Broader accounting and financial control skills and experience
- Australian Citizenship (Federal Government requirement)
