The Department and Role
This role is an opportunity for a Legal Assistant to join a State Government department on a full time temporary basis with potential to extend. If you have experience in legal support and are self-motivated, organised and adaptable, we would like to receive your application!
The successful candidate will work under the supervision of a Lawyer, Managing Law Clerk, or Senior Managing Law Clerk, providing high-quality, timely, and responsive legal assistant support as part of a collaborative team, supporting a group of approximately four to five Lawyers.
This temporary role offers a 3–6 month contract, working full-time Monday to Friday, up to 38 hours per week.
The main duties and skills required for the role include
Core Responsibilities
- Telephones- Provides comprehensive telephone services for the allocated lawyers, including screening calls, answering enquiries and taking messages.
- Word Processing and Document Production (Intermediate)- Produces a range of standard memos, letters, opinions, legal documents and court forms for lawyers from hand-written drafts.
- Assists lawyers with a range of clerical tasks including sorting and filing correspondence; scanning, photocopying or binding of materials; maintaining diaries, organising the service or delivery of documents.
- Searches and enters data into a records management system (TRIM).
- Drafting and preparing legal documents for review
- Managing legal files and records in accordance with departmental policies
- Assisting with client communications and appointment scheduling
- Supporting legal research and case preparation activities
- ollaborating with a multidisciplinary team to ensure smooth workflow
- Produces documents using the document production system Open Practice Document Production.
- Arranges travel and accommodation bookings and vehicle hire for the allocated lawyers, including the
preparation of travel claim forms. - Under the direct supervision of a lawyer provides basic paralegal support including the drafting of some routine
court documents, e-Lodgment of documents and liaising with clients and other parties.
About you:
- Experience working in a legal environment as a Legal assistant, law clerk or paralegal is essential.
- Ability to meet deadlines
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail
- Strong organisational and time management skills
- bility to work effectively in a team environmen
- Knowledge of government legal frameworks is an advantage
