A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a passionate and dedicated Part-Time Cook at a reputable childcare centre. In this role, you will be responsible for providing nutritious, delicious, and culturally diverse meals and snacks for children. Your work will directly contribute to the health, well being, and development of the children, making you a vital part of the community.
This is a part-time position working 21 hours per week, 5 days a week, from 8:15 AM to 12:30 PM, with slight flexibility for preparation and closing duties.
Menu Planning & Preparation: Plan, prepare, and cook daily meals, including morning tea, lunch, and afternoon tea, following our centre's menu and adhering to the Australian Dietary Guidelines for Children.
Dietary Needs: Cater for children with specific dietary requirements, allergies and intolerances ensuring all meals are prepared and served safely.
Food Safety & Hygiene: Maintain the highest standards of food safety and hygiene in line with HACCP principles. This includes proper food storage, temperature control, and kitchen cleanliness.
Inventory Management: Manage kitchen inventory, order supplies, and maintain stock levels to ensure efficient operation and minimise waste.
Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records, including temperature logs, delivery records, and allergy lists, in accordance with regulatory requirements.
Communication: Work collaboratively with the Centre Director and educators to ensure a seamless service and address any dietary or meal-related queries.
Kitchen Maintenance: Ensure the kitchen area, including all appliances and utensils, is clean, well-maintained, and organised at all times.
Essential:
Proven experience as a cook will be considered highly, preferably in a childcare, school, or similar high-volume catering environment.
Hold a current Food Safety Supervisor Certificate.
A strong understanding of children's nutritional requirements and food safety regulations.
The ability to plan and prepare meals for a range of dietary needs, including common allergies (e.g., nuts, dairy, gluten).
Excellent time management and organisational skills.
A current Working with Children Check (WWC) or willingness to obtain one.
A clear Police Check.
Desirable:
A Certificate III or IV in Commercial Cookery or similar qualification.
Knowledge of the National Quality Framework (NQF) and relevant standards.
Previous experience with a professional kitchen environment and equipment.
A supportive and friendly team environment.
