About the Role
We are seeking a skilled and strategic Communications Writer to play a pivotal role in shaping the public narrative for a major statewide infrastructure and connection plan. Sitting at the intersection of strategy, technical engineering, and community engagement, your primary mission will be to attend internal team meetings, absorb complex technical concepts, and distill them into highly engaging, plain-language public-facing documents.
Key Responsibilities
- Translate & Distill: Take highly technical energy, engineering, and economic data and translate it into palatable, clear, and engaging content for the general public and diverse stakeholders.
- Content Creation: Author, edit, and refine public-facing documents, update papers, and community materials regarding the major transmission and connection plan.
- Strategic Alignment: Synthesize the overarching intent and strategy of the organization into all communication materials, ensuring the "why" behind the projects is clearly communicated without unnecessary technical jargon.
- Brand Voice Maintenance: Quickly adopt and champion the organization's distinct, established communication style across all written outputs.
- Collaborative Writing: Partner closely with internal teams - including engineers, economists, and communications specialists - to gather information and ensure technical accuracy.
Key Selection Criteria
- Exceptional Communication: Masterful written and verbal communication skills, with a proven track record of writing in plain language and translating complex data into engaging community content.
- Strategic & Technical Synthesis: Ability to sit in high-level team meetings, grasp complex strategic and economic goals, and seamlessly weave that intent into community-facing updates.
- Stakeholder Empathy: A strong understanding of how to communicate complex infrastructure changes to local communities in a way that builds trust, clarity, and alignment.
- Attention to Detail: Exceptional proofreading, editing, and quality control skills to maintain high standards across all major publications.
