About the Opportunity
Randstad is seeking expressions of interest from detail-oriented, efficient individuals for potential Transcription Officer positions. This role is ideal for skilled typists, legal administrators, or graduates looking to gain valuable experience within a highly regarded government environment.
Position Overview
As a Transcription Officer, you will be responsible for the accurate and timely production of official transcripts of court proceedings. Utilising a variety of audio/video formats and research tools, you will ensure all documentation meets strict quality standards and required timeframes.
If you have a sharp eye for detail, strong English comprehension skills, and a fast typing speed (minimum 70 words per minute).
Key Responsibilities
Transcript Production: Produce accurate and timely transcripts of official proceedings from audio, video, and live recordings, applying judgement to resolve routine issues.
Quality Assurance: Review and edit transcripts to ensure compliance with strict agency standards, identifying recurring issues that impact quality or efficiency.
Records Management: Manage, catalogue, and store recordings and transcripts in accordance with legislation, security requirements, and internal policies.
Collaborative Support: Work closely with the wider team to meet operational priorities, service standards, and publication timeframes, adapting flexibly to changing workloads.
Selection Criteria
To be successful in this role, you will need to demonstrate:
Communication Skills: Strong written and verbal communication, including the ability to accurately transcribe audio and clearly document procedures.
Technical Proficiency: High proficiency in Microsoft Word and digital tools, with a minimum typing speed of 70 words per minute. Please note that all shortlisted candidates will be required to complete a typing test to confirm they meet this requirement.
Time Management: Strong organisational skills with the ability to plan, prioritise, and adjust work to meet competing, strict deadlines.
Teamwork & Adaptability: A collaborative mindset, a willingness to share information, and the agility to contribute to new processes and ways of working.
Desirable: Prior experience in audio transcription, dictation, or working within a court, tribunal, or legal environment is highly regarded but not essential.
Eligibility & Requirements
Must hold Australian Citizenship and currently reside in Australia.
Must satisfy a National Police Records Check and be willing to undergo further security clearances if required.
Shortlisted candidates will be required to complete a typing assessment to verify a minimum typing speed of 70 WPM.
- Whilst this work can be completed remotely, all successful candidates will be required to attend an office in person to collect equiment at the commencement of the assignment. Offices are located in Sydney, Perth, Melbourne, Canberra, Brisbane or Adelaide
