Animal Management Officer | Focus on Compliance | Great Hourly Rate
Do you have specialist experience in animal control within local government? We're seeking a dedicated and experienced Animal Management Officer to join a respected Melbourne council team. This role is perfect for a candidate who is passionate about animal welfare and public safety, and who possesses a deep understanding of relevant Victorian legislation.
The Role
You will be the council’s expert in animal control and management, enforcing the Domestic Animals Act 1994 and related local laws. Your work will directly contribute to a safer, more harmonious community for both people and pets.
Key Duties:
Responding to and investigating complaints regarding dangerous dogs, dog attacks, nuisance animals, and wandering livestock.
Impounding and reuniting lost animals, managing the council's animal pound/shelter operations, and liaising with vet services.
Enforcing microchipping and registration compliance.
Educating the public on responsible pet ownership and council regulations.
Preparing infringement notices, detailed reports, and court documentation.
Conducting property inspections related to permits for excess animals or dog breeding.
What You'll Bring
Essential: Prior, hands-on experience as an Animal Management Officer or similar role within a local government environment.
Expert Knowledge: Comprehensive, up-to-date knowledge of the Domestic Animals Act 1994 (Vic) and relevant Council Local Laws.
Highly Desirable: Qualification such as a Certificate IV in Animal Control and Regulations.
Availability: Preference will be given to candidates who are immediately available.
Skills: Experience in animal handling (including aggressive or large breeds), strong decision-making abilities, and public relations acumen.
Bonus: Current First Aid and/or Chemical Immobilisation certifications.

Hourly Rate: $40 - $45 per hour + Superannuation.
Location: Melbourne Metropolitan area.
