Your New Company/Role:
A well established client within the construction industry is looking for an experienced Accounts Officer to join their growing team. This is a permanent full-time position based in North Sydney 2060, NSW. This is a junior role for someone who is looking to establish their career within the accounting domain. The main requirement for this role is the successful candidate must be an Australian or New Zealand Citizen and is able to start in short notice. Previous experience in the Big 4/large accounting firm is highly desirable.
About the Opportunity / Responsibilities:
Reporting to a nurturing Finance Manager; you are responsible for
- Process supplier invoices in a timely and accurate manner, ensuring proper authorization, coding and supporting documentation.
- Maintain the accounts payable system, ensuring all invoices are recorded correctly and filed appropriately.
- Perform regular creditor reconciliations to ensure supplier statements match internal records.
- Prepare and process payment runs according to payment terms and schedules.
- Respond to supplier inquiries regarding payment status and resolve any discrepancies.
- Monitor aged payables reports and follow up on outstanding items
- Process a small volume of customer invoices as required.
- Monitor customer payments and maintain accurate records.
- Support with basic customer inquiries regarding invoices and payments.
- Assist with month-end accounts receivable reconciliations when needed.
- Assist with month-end financial close procedures.
- Prepare regular accounts payable reports for management review.
- Support the Finance team with ad-hoc administrative tasks as required.
- Identify opportunities for process improvements within the accounts payable function.
Ideal Profile
This opportunity is for someone who has experience within a similar role as an Accounts Assistant or Accounts Officer. You will also bring:
- Diploma or Bachelors in Accounting & Finance/equivalent qualification
- Exposure to large ERP systems - M3 would be advantageous but not essential
- Prior experience within construction industry is highly desirable or Big 4 work exposure
- Understanding of GST/tax regulations is highly advantageous
- Prior experience in a similar role ( 2 years or more )
- Strong verbal and communication skills
- Intermediate Excel proficiency
- A proactive, self-motivated approach to project work and continuous improvement
- The candidate must be an Australian or New Zealand citizen - this is non negotiable
