This initial four month contract is ideal for an experienced and proactive communications professional to join a busy Strategic Engagement and Community Education team within a government organisation. This role is responsible for delivering clear, high-quality content and communications across internal and external channels, with a strong focus on plain language writing, stakeholder engagement, and digital communication.
Working closely with senior leaders, project teams, and external partners, the Senior Communications and Content Officer will play a key role in supporting strategic initiatives, organisational change, and community outreach efforts.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and implement internal communication plans to support business priorities, organisational change, and strategic projects.
Draft and edit high-quality content for various platforms, including newsletters, intranet pages (SharePoint), speeches, reports, briefings, social media, and executive communications.
Collaborate with senior stakeholders, including executives and subject matter experts, to ensure messages are clear, accessible, and aligned with organisational objectives.
Manage and schedule social media content, ensuring it is timely, audience-appropriate, and compliant with organisational tone and branding.
Provide editorial support and ensure consistency in grammar, tone, structure, accessibility, and readability across communications.
Coordinate communication activities with internal teams and external agencies, ensuring deadlines and project milestones are met.
Contribute to the development and delivery of strategic engagement and community education initiatives.
Ensure all communications comply with government requirements, including accessibility standards and information management protocols.
Support the development and maintenance of communications resources and templates.
Essential Requirements
Demonstrated experience in a communications or content development role within a government environment.
Advanced skills in plain language writing, with the ability to simplify complex or technical information for a general or community audience.
Proven ability to produce high-quality content across multiple formats (written, digital, and visual) for internal and external stakeholders.
Strong editorial skills, including attention to detail, structure, grammar, and consistency.
Excellent time management and organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously under tight deadlines.
Strong interpersonal and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across teams and functions.
Proficiency in digital communication tools including Microsoft Teams, SharePoint, and social media management platforms.
Desirable Experience
Prior experience in communications within legal, financial, or regulatory sectors.
Background in journalism, media, public relations, or legal writing.
Familiarity with content approval workflows, publishing protocols, and document control processes in a government setting.
Knowledge of accessibility requirements and experience applying inclusive communication principles.
