Contract Length: ASAP for 7 months (possible extension)
Pay: $87 - $117 per hour + super
Hours: Full-time (38.0 hours per week)
Overview of the role:
The Principal Industrial Relations Consultant will provide a hands-on, solution-focused approach to overseeing and assisting with public health sector complex workplace relations matters and taking an advanced role in leading enterprise bargaining negotiations, identifying emerging industrial relations risks and actively intervening to promote positive industrial outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide strategic input to the interpretation of government policies, legislation and industrial relations initiatives including the review, development and implementation of policies and procedures designed to implement industrial agreements and legislation
- Provide expert and strategic advice as required on a broad range of industrial relations issues and other major risk factors impacting on the achievement of effective industrial relations outcomes
- Lead and/or contribute to the management and conduct of enterprise bargaining activities, including undertaking preparatory research, developing stances for the bargaining agenda, direct negotiations with unions and employers and liaison across the department on industrial relations matters
- Undertake complex and sensitive investigations on industrial relations issues and advocate in industrial tribunals as required
- Drive the consistent interpretation and application of provisions and industrial relations and enterprise bargaining principles and practices across the department and act as a first point of contact for communications between the department and health sector representatives
- Problem-solve and work collaboratively with legal and industrial relations consultants.
- Keep accurate and complete records of your work activities in accordance with legislative requirements and the department's records, information security and privacy policies and requirements
- Operate within increased level of autonomy and accountability in delivering within broad strategic directions.
- Manage a range of projects/functions each with increased budget, staff responsibilities or strategic importance.
- Contribute advanced expertise and knowledge to benefit strategic planning and organisation/sector-wide outcomes.
- Respond productively to deliver solutions and outcomes in an organisational environment complicated by scale, heterogeneity and complexity

Knowledge required for the position:
- Knowledge of current industrial relations issues as they relate to the health services field, industrial legislation, enterprise agreements and bargaining, and industrial tribunals would be highly desirable.
- Proven ability in providing industrial relations advice and as an industrial relations researcher, negotiator and advocate would be highly desirable.
Qualifications
- A tertiary qualification in employment law, human resources, industrial relations or other relevant field and/or significant experience in developing and implementing industrial relations strategies preferably within a government environment is desirable
