A leading Melbourne-based university client is seeking a Veterinarian and Senior Animal Welfare Officer for an initial 8-week iassignment
Location: Bundoora West campus, Melbourne (may require work at other campuses)
The Role:
We seek a proactive and skilled University Veterinarian and Senior Animal Welfare Officer to join the Research Ethics, Integrity and Governance team at the Bundoora West University we are working with. This full-time position ensures the highest standard of animal welfare in research and teaching.
Key responsibilities include:
... - Developing and delivering a Program of Veterinary Care (clinical, emergency, preventive medicine).
- Providing expert advice on animal welfare best practice to researchers, staff, and the Animal Ethics Committee (AEC).
- Ensuring compliance with the Australian Code, relevant legislation, and University Policy.
- Developing, delivering, and coordinating appropriate training.
Key Selection Criteria
- Relevant Veterinary experience in clinical practice and/or research environments, plus current Victorian Veterinarian Registration.
- Strong commitment to animal welfare, deep knowledge of Codes and legislation, and empathetic understanding of laboratory animal science.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and use discretion wisely.
- Strong interpersonal, influencing, and negotiating skills, and ability to proactively engage with stakeholders to resolve complex issues.
- Ability to proactively identify issues in animal welfare, ethics, and governance and make recommendations for compliance and continuous improvement.
- Experience in coordinating and delivering professional training and education in laboratory animal science and animal welfare.
- Proven ability to work effectively in a team and autonomously, emphasizing professional excellence.
- Demonstrated history of behavior aligned to the Bundoora West University we are working with values.
Qualifications
- A degree in Veterinary Science and registration with or eligibility for the Veterinary Practitioners Registration Board of Victoria.
- Desirable: A postgraduate research degree in a relevant discipline (e.g., veterinary science, microbiology, molecular biology). Membership in relevant professional associations is encouraged.
