QR has a current project pipeline of over A$15 billion, and this is expected to grow exponentially in the build-up to the 2032 Brisbane Olympic and Paralympic Games. As a result of this significant investment, the need to secure in-house technical and engineering resources is paramount to support their critical technology rollouts. This includes ensuring that European Train Control Systems (ETCS) telecommunications systems are successfully integrated into the broader operational and maintenance activities of the QR SEQ Network.
What You’ll Do
As a member of the embedded ETCS project team, the Telecommunications Lead - ETCS CRR will provide strategic and technical leadership to ensure telecommunications engineering capability supports efficient delivery processes across all phases of the project lifecycle.
- Drive Engineering Excellence: Lead the provision of expert telecommunications engineering services across ETCS, DRS, OT Cyber, CSN, and Telecoms Infrastructure. You will ensure projects are completed against specified Key Result Areas considering scope, quality, safety, budgets, and timeframes.
- Coach & Inspire: Act as a leadership mentor by coaching and supporting multi-disciplinary teams to effectively manage stakeholder relations and communicate with positive impact. You will guide individuals to build capability and maximize commercial outcomes.
- Innovate & Optimize: Guide individuals and teams in delivering commercial advantages through business improvements, technology development, and innovation.
- Thought Leadership: Collaborate with key ETCS stakeholders within the QR business to obtain advice and guidance relating to Telecoms initiatives, strengthening governance and providing the best possible support to the ETCS Program.
What We Are Looking For
We are looking for a heavy-hitter in the telecommunications engineering space who brings a powerful blend of commercial acumen, engineering leadership, and high-level stakeholder management skills.
- Qualifications: A Bachelor of Engineering (Electrical & Electronic) AND ideally current Registered Professional Engineer Queensland (RPEQ) status or have the necessary qualifications and experience to attain it. IE: have CEng or Professional Engineer status with Engineers Australia.
- Telecoms Infrastructure Experience: High level of skill in the design, renewals, implementation, testing, and commissioning of telecommunications infrastructure. You must bring a strong track record of delivering business-focused technical engineering solutions that drive commercial value. Must have experience with FRMCS or LTE technologies.
- People Leadership: Proven ability to lead, develop, and coach a team of professional engineers and technical officers within a complex regulatory environment.
- Commercial Acumen: A sharp focus on applying sound commercial practices to deliver sustainable commercial outcomes.
- Regulatory Knowledge: Extensive knowledge of applying statutory and regulatory standards to meet safety, environmental, and HR obligations within a commercially governed rail environment.
- Soft Skills & Influence: Exceptional communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
