Technical Officer - Soft Matter & Cryobiology (Part-Time: 1 Day Per Week)
The Role
We are seeking an experienced Technical Officer to provide essential technical operations and support for research and industry activities within our city-based laboratories. This is a contract opportunity required for leave back fill.

Responsibilities
As the Technical Officer, you will be responsible for:
- Daily operations of the lab spaces, including maintenance of equipment, infrastructure, and lab services to ensure smooth running.
- Working alongside the Senior Technical Manager and lead Academics to facilitate research support in designated lab spaces.
- Maintaining all OHS compliance and safety standards at a high level.
- Managing relevant safety documentation (SOPs, SWIs, RAs, chemical registers etc.) and training material.
About You
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- A tertiary qualification in Engineering or Science, or a related discipline, and/or relevant experience.
- Experience in a lab environment, including technical operations and general laboratory instrumentation and infrastructure.
- Proven knowledge and technical ability in the safe handling of hazardous chemicals, including storage and waste disposal (including biological waste).
- A current understanding of OHS legislation, regulations, and standards, with relevant experience managing safe and compliant operations, preferably in a research environment.
- Highly organised, with proven ability to prioritise tasks, work effectively under pressure with limited direction, and demonstrate flexibility and sound decision-making.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills, capable of working independently and within a team.
Desirable Experience
- Knowledge and experience with Cryogenic handling (LN2).
- Gas cylinder handling qualification and experience.
Appointment to this position is subject to holding a valid Victorian Working with Children Check and other checks as required by the specific role.
