A Victorian-based university in Melbourne CBD is seeking a Technical Officer – Process Chemistry & Environmental to support its STEM laboratories due to increased workload.
Reporting to the Technical Coordinator, you will provide hands-on technical support to staff and students, maintain laboratory equipment, assist with teaching and research activities, and ensure laboratories operate safely, efficiently, and in compliance with OH&S requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Support day-to-day operations of process chemistry and environmental laboratories
- Maintain, operate, and demonstrate laboratory equipment and instruments
- Provide inductions, training, and technical advice to staff and students
- Prepare laboratories, materials, and equipment for teaching and research activities
- Develop and maintain laboratory documentation (SOPs, risk assessments, registers)
- Monitor consumables and support ordering processes
- Ensure laboratories remain safe, clean, compliant, and fully operational
About You
- Experience working in chemical engineering, materials engineering, chemistry, or similar laboratory environments
- Demonstrated ability to operate and maintain laboratory equipment
- Sound knowledge of OH&S legislation and laboratory safety practices
- Strong communication skills and a client-focused approach
- Relevant tertiary qualifications and/or equivalent experience
