Technical Officer – Chemistry & Life Sciences (Part-Time)
Position Title: JR45344 Technical Officer
We are seeking a Technical Officer to provide hands-on technical support across Chemistry teaching and research laboratories at our Melbourne-based University.
Reporting to the Technical Coordinator, you will support day-to-day laboratory operations, maintain and demonstrate laboratory equipment, prepare materials for classes, manage consumables, and contribute to high standards of safety, compliance, and housekeeping across Chemistry and Life Sciences spaces.
Key responsibilities include:
- Supporting undergraduate and research Chemistry laboratories
- Maintaining, servicing and demonstrating laboratory equipment and instruments
- Preparing materials and equipment for practical classes
- Developing and maintaining SOPs, risk assessments and safety documentation
- Supporting OHS compliance, hazardous materials handling and waste management
- Liaising with academic staff and providing training and inductions to users
About you:
- Degree (or higher) in Chemistry with relevant laboratory experience
- Strong experience in tertiary-level Chemistry laboratory operations
- Sound knowledge of OHS legislation and safe laboratory practices
- Excellent communication skills and a collaborative, service-focused approach
- Victorian driver’s licence (desirable)
