Are you a technical professional with a background in Science or Health looking to step into a leadership role? We are seeking a Technical Coordinator to join a leading University at their Bundoora West campus.
Reporting to the Senior Technical Manager, you will oversee the day-to-day operations of laboratory workspaces, ensuring high-quality technical support for teaching, research, and industry activities. This is a pivotal role managing a team of technical officers to deliver a professional, compliant, and client-centric service.
Key Responsibilities
... - Team Leadership: Manage and mentor a team of technical officers, overseeing work plans, KPIs, and daily performance.
- Operational Coordination: Coordinate technical support for Health Biosciences and Clinical Biology laboratories, ensuring resources are fit for purpose.
- Compliance & Safety: Develop and maintain systems for OHS compliance, including the safe storage and disposal of laboratory materials and hazardous substances.
- Technical Advice: Provide expert guidance on equipment usage, laboratory practices, and purchasing to students and researchers.
- Maintenance & Inventory: Manage preventative maintenance schedules for complex equipment and ensure a consistent supply of laboratory consumables.
- Budget & Administration: Liaise with finance teams for budget reconciliation and maintain rigorous documentation for audits and training.
About You
You are a highly organised leader with a strong technical foundation in laboratory sciences. You thrive in high-pressure environments and pride yourself on your ability to find creative solutions to complex operational challenges.
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- Technical Expertise: Proven experience in Science or Health streams (e.g., Pathology, Biological Sciences, Haematology, Medical Micro, or Biochemistry).
- Leadership Experience: Demonstrated ability to supervise staff and coordinate technical services in a research or teaching environment.
- Operational Management: Strong skills in planning, scheduling, and resource allocation to meet strict deadlines.
- Compliance Knowledge: Deep understanding of current OHS legislation and hazardous scenario management.
- Communication: Excellent interpersonal skills with a "service-first" approach to stakeholder management.
Qualifications
- A degree in Biological Sciences, Medical Microbiology, Haematology, Pathology, or a related field.
- At least 4 years of subsequent relevant experience.
- Postgraduate qualifications or management experience will be highly regarded.
