About the Role
The Sport and Athlete Division is responsible for developing and delivering the Brisbane 2032 Sport Programme (including competition management and planning), ensuring world-class environments for athletes. It manages vital relationships with International (IFs) and National Sport Federations (NFs), and Olympic (NOCs) and Paralympic Committees (NPCs), integrating their needs across all Games functional areas. Reporting to the Director of Sport, the Sport Programme Manager will strategically partner with the IOC, IPC, and IFs to develop the Programme. This involves conducting detailed sport-specific research, embedding IF technical requirements into planning, and creating reports to facilitate stakeholder engagement. The role will be a key part of supporting the design, planning and delivery of a Brisbane 2032 Sport Programme that is operationally, financially and commercially viable, engages global audiences and ignites national support. It requires strategic project management skills, agility, and adaptability to manage multiple sports, disciplines, and events throughout the Games planning lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the design, planning and delivery of the Brisbane 2032 Sport Programme, developing the systems and processes required to deliver the Olympic and Paralympic sporting competitions.
- Conduct detailed sport-specific research and data analysis to inform the design of the Brisbane 2032 Sport Programme, considering key operational, technical, financial, participation and engagement drivers.
- Work with IFs to plan and implement their specific regulations, delivering a world-class sport competition within the established frameworks and event delivery models approved by the IOC and IPC, and in collaboration with local delivery authorities and venue owners.
- Identify, assess and implement innovative approaches to Sport Programme planning and delivery, enabling Brisbane 2032’s strategic optimisation, revenue generation and engagement priorities.
- Develop documentation, presentations and reports to support engagement with key stakeholders including the Brisbane 2032 Board, Advisory Groups, management, IOC, IPC, IFs and NFs.
- Develop and implement key Sport and Athlete Division projects, policies and procedures in consultation with a range of functional areas including Venues, Finance, Procurement, People Management and Legal.
Skills and Experience
- Degree in sport/business management or related discipline (preferred, not essential)
- Significant experience working within a sporting organisation (IF or NF) or in an event management environment delivering international standard events (e.g. Local Organising Committee)
- Experience working across complex stakeholder ecosystems, navigating competing demands and evolving priorities while ensuing programme delivery
- Strong interpersonal, communication, project management, and problem-solving skills, with excellent attention to detail.
- Ability to implement and manage change effectively
- Demonstrated commitment to co-creation and collaborative decision-making
- A team player who understands the importance of collaboration, communication and shared achievement
