The SAP Basis Consultant plays a crucial role in the technical administration and project delivery lifecycle of the SAP Application landscape within our organisation. This position ensures that the technical foundation of the SAP systems aligns with project specifications and maintains the efficiency, stability, and high availability necessary for seamless business operations.
1. System Operations and Administration
- System Optimisation: Design, deploy, and manage the SAP configuration to ensure maximum system performance and reliability.
- Performance Tuning: Develop and execute strategies for ongoing SAP system tuning and optimisation.
- Database Management: Administer the underlying database instances, focusing on performance tuning and effective Data Volume Management (DVM).
- Proactive Monitoring: Continuously monitor the health of all SAP environments (e.g., work processes, user sessions, system logs, short dumps, locks, traces, and disk utilisation).
- Stakeholder Communication: Serve as the technical liaison, providing system status updates to internal teams and external partners.
- Incident Resolution: Troubleshoot and resolve complex SAP technical issues using standard and specialised tools.
- Documentation: Maintain comprehensive and up-to-date technical documentation for all administrative activities and system configurations.
2. Project Execution and Delivery
- Implementation Support: Execute the technical installation and configuration of SAP applications and databases as defined by project requirements.
- Lifecycle Management: Participate in planning and implementing SAP system upgrades, patches, and enhancement packages to ensure software currency across the landscape.
- Reporting: Communicate system activity progress and milestones effectively to internal and external project stakeholders.
- Meeting Participation: Attend required Project and Service Management meetings.
- Documentation: Create and maintain documentation detailing the steps and outcomes of project-related technical activities.
3. Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
- Achieving and maintaining target SAP Application Availability.
- Meeting or exceeding defined Service Level Agreements (SLAs) for incident and problem resolution.
- Active and constructive participation in key stakeholder and governance meetings.
- Effective collaboration with onshore and offshore team members.
- Ensuring technical documentation is accurate and current.
4. Essential Requirements and Skills
- Mandatory: 5 – 7 years of hands-on experience in SAP Basis administration, with substantial expertise across both SAP ABAP and SAP Java stacks, specifically utilising MS SQL and SAP HANA database platforms.
- Mandatory: Extensive experience in the administration and implementation of key SAP solutions, including SAP ECC, SAP CAR, SAP S4HANA, SAP SCM/APO, and SAP SLT.
- Mandatory: Proficient in the administration of MSSQL and SAP HANA databases.
- Experience with SAP Business Technology Platform (BTP), particularly in cloud environments.
- Prior experience working with major Cloud hyper-scalers (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP).
- Ability to produce clear and detailed technical documentation for SAP processes, procedures, plans, changes, upgrades, and new service deployments.
- Possesses a proactive, solution-oriented approach to technical challenges and problem-solving.
- Excellent communication skills (written and verbal) and a strong commitment to being a collaborative team player.
