About the Role
Our client is a VIC state government organisation based in the Melbourne CBD. They are currently seeking a Senior Financial Accountant to come in and work with them on a 4 month temp contract with potential for extension.
Candidates for this role must have:
- Tertiary qualifications in Accounting, Finance OR CA/CPA Qualification
- Proven experience in Financial Accounting roles
- Proven experience in statutory financial reporting and end of financial year processes
- Demonstrated experience participating in financial audits, either as an auditor or from a client perspective
Key responsibilities include:
Statutory Reporting & Compliance: Deliver accurate, audit-ready financial statements and disclosures in strict accordance with AASB, FRDs, and Standing Directions 2018.
Technical Accounting Advice: Provide expert guidance and technical papers on complex matters, including fair value, impairments, and right-of-use assets, to support the CFO and Manager.
Year-End Coordination: Independently manage end-of-financial-year deliverables, ensuring all reporting outputs are high-quality, accurate, and meet strict deadlines.
Audit & Query Management: Lead engagement with internal and external auditors to resolve queries, provide evidentiary support, and clear reporting issues within required timeframes.
Governance & Committee Support: Prepare essential materials for the Audit and Risk Committee and draft comprehensive disclosures for the organisation's annual report.
Assurance & Asset Integrity: Coordinate financial assurance activities, such as reconciliations and asset stocktakes, while quality-assuring data across the organisation.
Process Improvement & Mentorship: Identify opportunities to enhance reporting workflows and provide technical support and guidance to colleagues to improve team capability.
About You
You will be a highly experienced Senior level financial accountant with proven experience and reliability in previous roles.
The successful candidate will possess:
- Tertiary qualifications in Accounting, Finance OR CA/CPA Qualification
- Proven experience in Financial Accounting roles
- Proven experience in statutory financial reporting and end of financial year processes
- Demonstrated experience participating in financial audits, either as an auditor or from a client perspective
