This position sits within the corporate financial accounting team of a large, globally listed professional services group. The company operates across multiple international regions, managing high volume revenue streams and complex entity structures. The Sydney head office maintains a close, collaborative local team culture, supported by an offshore shared services function that handles the transactional processing. The local finance team is currently prioritising process improvement, system updates, and the implementation of new global reporting frameworks across the network.
Role Description
This is a hands-on financial accounting and technical compliance role for a self motivated professional who can work autonomously. Reporting directly to the Group Financial Controller, you will operate as an individual contributor responsible for general ledger integrity, month end reporting, and audit compliance.
The position focuses heavily on core corporate financial accounting, financial statement preparation, and variance analysis. It also provides secondary exposure to new compliance frameworks, including supporting the team with the transition into mandatory Tier 1 sustainability disclosures under the new AASB S2 climate related reporting framework, alongside participating in local finance automation projects.

Key Responsibilities
...- Financial Reporting and P&Ls: Prepare the monthly financial reporting, including Profit and Loss reports, Balance Sheets, and reconciliations for allocated group entities.
- Financial Statements and Consolidations: Prepare the Annual Financial Statements, including consolidations and Goodwill impairment testing, in accordance with AASB and IFRS standards.
- General Ledger Integrity: Maintain the accuracy of the general ledger by preparing and processing monthly general, standing, and reversing journals.
- Variance Analysis: Complete detailed Profit and Loss variance analysis and provide financial performance commentary directly to the GFC and divisional directors.
- Statutory Compliance: Act as the core technical specialist for IFRS and AASB standards, providing guidance on accounting treatments and working with senior finance leadership to ensure group compliance.
- AASB S2 and ESG Disclosure: Coordinate data collection and reporting requirements as required under the new AASB S2 climate disclosure framework.
- Audit and Internal Controls: Assist the Assistant GFC with the monthly review of Balance Sheet reconciliations and support the implementation of audit recommendations.
- Local Collaboration: Work closely with multiple teams and functions to meet reporting deadlines and provide internal technical assistance where required.
- Finance Transformation: Support process improvement, system upgrades, and automation initiatives by utilising modern analytical and AI tools.
- Templates and Process Improvement: Create and update financial templates to improve month end reporting efficiency.
Qualifications and Skills
- A Bachelor's degree in Commerce, Finance, Accounting, or a related discipline.
- CA or CPA qualification is essential.
- A background in statutory reporting and core financial accounting.
- Strong technical proficiency in AASB and IFRS, with an interest in developing exposure to the new AASB S2 climate reporting framework.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Google Sheets.
- Demonstrated ability to leverage modern AI tools to efficiently resolve day to day technical accounting challenges.
- Clear communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with local team members.
- Strong attention to detail and a proactive approach to continuous process improvement.
