About the Role
Our client is a NSW government organisation based in Darlinghurst NSW. They are currently seeking a Senior Accounting Officer to come in and join their team on a temp contract opportunity until 7th August 2026 with possible extensions.

Candidates for this role must have:
- Tertiary qualifications in Accounting, Finance or similar OR CA/CPA qualification
- A proven record in accounting and experience in a commercial environment and/or the public sector
- Strong experience in general accounting processes.
Key Responsibilities include:
- Statutory Compliance & Reporting: Deliver accurate financial statements and tax returns in line with NSW Treasury guidelines and statutory obligations.
- Specialist Advisory & Training: Provide expert guidance on complex accounting, taxation, and Treasury matters to maintain organisational compliance.
- Internal Controls & Governance: Coordinate and implement robust internal controls and chart-of-account reviews to ensure accuracy and procedural integrity.
- Policy & Process Optimisation: Develop and refine financial policies and procedures to drive efficiency, productivity, and adherence to contemporary standards.
- Strategic Risk Management: Recommend accounting and taxation strategies that optimize performance while staying within regulatory and risk constraints.
- Business Partnering: Collaborate with finance peers to implement strategic changes and educate clients on new accounting policies and guidelines.
- Treasury & Cash Oversight: Manage banking and cash practices per Public Sector guidelines to ensure efficient handling and secure liquidity management.
About You
You will be an experienced Accounting professional with proven experience and reliability in previous roles.
The successful candidate will possess:
- Tertiary qualifications in Accounting, Finance or similar OR CA/CPA qualification
- A proven record in accounting and experience in a commercial environment and/or the public sector
- Strong experience in Financial Accounting processes.
